Wintergreen Lake is located in the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary and is visited by many migratory water fowl throughout the year. The waterfowl is having a large impact on the lakes nutrient load making it the most eutrophic lake in our sampling program. TP averages 77 µg/L and the light attenuation coefficient of 1.12 reveals that the light is not penetrating very deep down in the water column. This results in that during most of the summer oxygen is depleted below 4-5 meters depth. The shoreline is not very steep with a depth ratio of 0.31. Common cladoceran zooplankters are Daphnia dentifera, Diaphanosoma birgei and Bosmina longispina.

The main planktivore is bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) and pumpkinseed (L. gibbosus) sunfish, and after a winter kill in 1977/78 large mouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) was reintroduced in 1986 and is now the dominating piscivore.
