Welcome to the Lake Allegan/Kalamazoo River Watershed
Phosphorus Total Maximum Daily Loading Non-Point Source
Information and Tracking System

The Kalmazoo River Watershed is a major geographic feature of southwest Michigan. It drains more that 2,020 square miles of land in Allegan, Barry, Calhoun, Eaton, Hillsdale, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, and Van Buren counties.

Nutrient enrichment of Lake Allegan is a symptom of non-point source water quality problems from the river, its tributaries, and their subwatersheds.

In collaboration with a number of watershed partners, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has recommended a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for the nutrient phosphorus.

The purpose of this system is to track data, information, activities, and events contributing to the reduction of phosphorus within the watershed.
