Sunday, Nov. 7 | Fall Fly In

10.19.21 Events, Uncategorized

The W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary’s Wintergreen Lake sits on a major migration route, making it a terrific spot to witness waterfowl traveling toward their winter destinations. If you enjoy birds and love autumn, combine the two and visit the Sanctuary during its annual Fall Fly In, set for 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7.

An avian care staff member holds one of the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary's ambassador birds, with Wintergreen Lake in the background, while a small group of people look on.

Fall is when waterfowl migrate to warmer waters, and hundreds of birds make a pit stop to rest on Wintergreen Lake. More than 80 different bird species have been spotted at the Sanctuary during November in past years.

About

Visitors will be able to practice waterfowl identification along the lakeshore and visit stations along the Sanctuary’s paved, accessible trail to learn about waterfowl, game birds and raptors. One of the Sanctuary’s ambassador birds also will make an appearance.

This event is free for members and non-members alike. No registration is required. The W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is located at 12685 East C Ave., one mile north of M-89 and just west of 40th Street. To learn more, visit birdsanctuary.kbs.msu.edu. Direct questions to birdsanctuary@kbs.msu.edu or (269) 671-2510.
