About
Enjoy a spring walk on the shores of Gull Lake and tour the historic Manor House, which was completed in 1927 as a summer home for W.K. and his wife, Dr. Carrie Staines Kellogg. Docents will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to share details of the estate’s construction and the Kelloggs’ lives. This year’s open house will focus on W.K.’s years working at the Battle Creek Sanitarium, a health spa and sanctuary of Seventh Day Adventist practices, which was run by his brother and attracted visitors from around the world. The Manor House is located at 3700 E. Gull Lake Drive, in Hickory Corners.
Then, visit the nearby Bird Sanctuary to walk the beautiful trails, feed the waterfowl that frequent Wintergreen Lake and learn about the environmental challenges that moved W.K. to create the Sanctuary. The Bird Sanctuary is located at 12685 E. C Avenue, in Augusta. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 16, with free admission offered all day.
