06.23.23 Events

Since May, some 25 undergraduate students have been living, learning, and conducting research or professional projects at the W.K. Kellogg Biological Station. Members of the community are invited to learn about those projects and their outcomes at the annual KBS Undergraduate Summer Symposium.

About

The symposium highlights student projects and celebrates the conclusion of their 10-week summer program. Each year, KBS researchers and staff mentor undergraduates in internships, part-time Undergraduate Research Apprenticeships—URA—or full-time Research Experiences for Undergraduates—REU—programs.

“We at KBS are excited to showcase the scholarly experiences of the talented undergraduate interns and researchers we have hosted in summer 2023,” said KBS Director Dr. Fredric Janzen. “We invite all from the broader KBS community to join us at the Symposium to celebrate their accomplishments.”

The inquiries at the heart of this year’s student projects are wide-ranging and include interns describing their professional experiences and projects completed at Kellogg Bird Sanctuary and the Kellogg Forest as well as student research done in collaboration with KBS faculty at the KBS Long-term Ecological Research site, KBS Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center, KBS Long-term Agroecosystem plots, and other field sites

Student posters will describe their research or professional projects, and all students will be present to share their work and answer questions. Attendees are encouraged to walk through and learn about their endeavors.

Registration and more information

This event is free and open to the public. If you are planning to attend the symposium, please register by Sunday, July 23.
