Two W.K. Kellogg Biological Station employees have garnered awards from Michigan State University’s College of Natural Science for excellence in their work and mentoring activities.
Holly Vander Stel
Holly Vander Stel is the lab manager in the Evans Lab at KBS. She won a 2023 NatSci Support Staff Award, which is awarded to two or three recipients annually who demonstrate excellence in their job performance, a supportive attitude, and make contributions that lead to improved efficiency or effectiveness to better the College’s ability to fulfill its mission.
Nick Haddad
Nick M. Haddad is the director of the KBS Long-term Ecological Research program, senior terrestrial ecologist at KBS, and professor of integrative biology at MSU. He won a 2023 NatSci Junior Faculty Mentoring Award, which recognizes one recipient annually who demonstrates outstanding mentorship by successfully guiding junior faculty members successfully through their academic career paths.
The award description describes a good mentor as one who recognizes the importance of strong mentoring and who keeps the mentee’s best interest foremost.
College of Natural Science awards
The NatSci awards are presented to faculty and staff in the college each year, following the State of the College address. The NatSci Awards Committee selects the faculty awards in the spring for the following academic year, based on nominations submitted by departments and programs.
