September | Free Admission for Bird Sanctuary Members to Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary

08.24.24 Events

The W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is kicking off autumn with a reciprocal membership agreement with Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary in September. The Sanctuary also will have themed activities set up inside the Overlook Building and along the 3/4-mile, accessible Paved Path.

Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary reciprocal membership month

During the month of September, Bird Sanctuary members will receive free admission to the Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary. The alligator sanctuary features several exhibit ponds and swamps that are home to many alligators of varying ages and sizes, up to 11 feet long. In addition to the alligators, a number of African tortoises call the sanctuary home, as do frogs and toads, lizards, fish, and insects in a greenhouse jungle exhibit.

The Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary is located at 1698 M-66, Athens, Michigan 49011. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day during their regular season.

Overlook Building and Storybook Walk themes

Each month, the Overlook hosts themed activities in a cozy, indoor space with beautiful views of Wintergreen Lake. The Overlook is located along the Sanctuary’s Paved Path, and the activities are ideal for children ages 3-6.

The September theme is songbirds. Families can engage in songbird-related reading, craft, and dramatic play activities during regular Sanctuary hours.

During spring, summer and fall, pages from a storybook are posted along the Paved Path for families to read as they walk. There also are self-guided activities, located in the Overlook Building, that complement the story’s themes. The September story is “The Bird Watchers” by Simon Janes.

The W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is located at 12685 East C Ave. in Augusta. Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Questions? Contact the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary at birdsanctuary@kbs.msu.edu or (269) 671-2510.
