Join us for the first day of our Inclusive Science Series.
Our three dynamic speakers will each give a 30-minute talk about their experiences with increasing support and representation for people of color and other underrepresented groups in ecology and evolution.
Join us the following day (November 9) for an interactive workshop from 9 a.m. to Noon with Dr. Deborah Johnson, focused on supporting people of color in the fields of ecology and evolution.
No registration is required to participate, and guests from all roles and institutions are welcome.
Checo Colón-Gaud (University of Southern Georgia) runs the Society for Freshwater Science’s Instars Program, which provides mentoring and networking opportunities to students from groups underrepresented in freshwater science.
Deborah Goldberg (University of Michigan) works with the University of Michigan’s Frontiers Master’s Program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology which brings students to the study of ecology and evolution who might not otherwise have considered it and prepares them to succeed in PhD programs.
James Nieh (University of California – San Diego) directs the UCSD-XULA Program, a partnership that brings seniors from Xavier University of Louisiana to UCSD to help prepare them for applying to and attending graduate school.
This series is hosted by KBS in partnership with MSU’s Department of Ecology, Environmental Biology & Behavior (EEBB), and MSU’s Office for Inclusion & Intercultural Initiatives.
A reception will be held Thursday, 6:00 p.m. at the Carriage House.
