Where

12685 East C Avenue, Augusta, MI, 49012

What to expect:

Explore Michigan’s native turtle species while diving into the world of watercolor painting! Join KBS graduate student Caleb Krueger as he shares his firsthand knowledge of turtle ecology and conservation. Following his presentation, artist-in-residence Erica Bradshaw will guide you in creating your own turtle-inspired watercolor painting based on your observations of live turtles.

All materials will be provided, including paintbrushes, watercolor paints, paint pellets, and watercolor paper. The class will be held indoors and outdoors, so be sure to dress comfortably!

Meet the presenters:

Caleb Krueger, a Ph.D. candidate studying the ecology and genetics of the endangered spotted turtle. Caleb has loved turtles about as long as he can remember. He’ll walk us through their biology, what a turtle biologist does, and what you can do for turtles, too! By the end, you just might be willing to help the next angry snapping turtle you see crossing the road.”

Erica Bradshaw, Kalamazoo MI. Receiving a bachelor’s degree in Illustration from Kendall College of Art and Design, Erica is focused on making art that educates and inspires conversation. As the 2024 KBS artist in residence, Erica looks forward to their work being shown at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary this July!
