In this interactive online workshop, you will be introduced to the free online unit, Genetic Rescue to the Rescue. Genetic rescue is an approach for helping endangered populations recover by introducing individuals of the same species from a different population. The lesson tells the story through the recovery and survival stories of the Florida panther and the Trinidadian guppy – the latter studied by Kellogg Biological Station faculty, Dr. Sarah Fitzpatrick! During the workshop you’ll explore part of the lesson as a learner, conceptualize genetic rescue, and analyze data to determine if restoration efforts are effective (Parts 4 and 5 of the Unit).
Galactic Polymath has a set of free lessons aligned with NGSS and based on cutting-edge research. Each lesson is highly interdisciplinary and incorporates elements that build students’ data literacy.
