There are so many ways to enjoy the gifts of nature at the Sanctuary. Take the short Paved Path or the longer Lake Loop Trail for close-up views of waterfowl including native Trumpeter Swans. Find the Sanctuary spot that’s home to its ambassador birds—Bald Eagles, Red-tailed Hawks and several owl species. Walk the Bluebird Trail, learn about the impact of restoration plantings and observe a prairie restoration project. Visit the Sanctuary gardens to see native plants in action—as well as pollinators, of course!
Tree planting
Two volunteer opportunities to help plant native trees at the Sanctuary are planned for April 22. The first is set for 10 a.m. to noon, and the second is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Volunteers will work in groups led by W.K. Kellogg Biological Station staff, and will receive instructions and guidance throughout. Volunteers should wear work gloves and closed-toed shoes.
The Sanctuary will be open Friday, April 22, during normal business hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
