Visitors to the W.K. Kellogg Biological Station’s Pasture Dairy Center may notice some changes in the coming months along B Avenue near 39th Street.
The large white barn located along the north side of B Ave., known as Maggie’s Barn, is slated for deconstruction. The barn has not been in use for some time due to its state of disrepair and also because its design is incompatible with modern livestock management equipment and processes.
The moniker “Maggie’s Barn” references Maggie Louden, who owned the barn and property before it came under the ownership of Michigan State University.
KBS will be partnering with a company that specializes in reclaiming and repurposing barn wood. Salvage efforts began in early January 2023, and most items have been removed from the barn’s interior.
Questions about the barn or the process to dismantle it can be sent to communityrelations@kbs.msu.edu.
