The W.K. Kellogg Biological Station and MSU’s Department of Plant Soil and Microbial Sciences invite applications for a full‐time, tenure-system faculty position in ecosystem ecology, with a 75% research, 15% teaching, and 10% service assignment. The position start date is anticipated to be Aug. 15, 2025.
Final appointment in the tenure system could be at an assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor rank. Final appointment will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s experience. This position is part of MSU’s Global Impact Initiative, designed to address grand challenges in some of the most promising and exciting fields of research.
About KBS

Nestled in southwest Michigan, just 65 miles from MSU’s main campus, KBS is a hub for cutting-edge ecological and environmental research. Its expansive 1,800-hectare campus features diverse aquatic and terrestrial habitats, state-of-the-art labs, greenhouses, and specialized facilities, including an experimental pond facility and genomic labs. KBS hosts major long-term ecological and agricultural research projects, including NSF and USDA-funded initiatives.
The station supports a vibrant academic community, including 13 year-round resident faculty, numerous graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and dedicated support staff. Its extensive outreach programs engage students, K-12 educators, and the broader public through educational and sustainability initiatives.
Qualifications
Candidates will have an earned Ph.D. in ecology, soil science, plant biology, microbiology, agronomy, geography, environmental science, or a related field; a demonstrated record of activities in teaching, research, Extension/outreach, and service relevant to the position; and will currently hold a principal investigator level position.
