Its expansive 1,800-hectare campus features diverse aquatic and terrestrial habitats, state-of-the-art labs, greenhouses, and specialized facilities, including an experimental pond facility and genomic labs. KBS hosts major long-term ecological and agricultural research projects, including NSF and USDA-funded initiatives.

The station supports a vibrant academic community, including 13 year-round resident faculty, numerous graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and dedicated support staff. Its extensive outreach programs engage students, K-12 educators, and the broader public through educational and sustainability initiatives.
