Saturday, Jan. 25 | A Ducky Day at the Sanctuary

The W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is kicking off winter with a day to celebrate and learn about the intrepid ducks that stick around southwest Michigan for the winter.

Geese, swans and ducks stand on a frozen section of Wintergreen Lake at the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary.

  • Location: W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary,
  • Audience: Everyone
  • Fee: Free

About

From noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, visit the Sanctuary to explore how ducks stay warm, how they float, and uncover other fascinating duck facts through a variety of hands-on activities. Take a stroll along our accessible, 3/4-mile Paved Path and learn even more about these amazing birds. Weather permitting, corn feeding will also be available.

Planned activities

Auditorium: Rubber ducky games and craft station
Have a blast with Rubber Ducky Games and win exciting prizes as you test your skills. Then, unleash your creativity at the craft station and make a ducky masterpiece to take home!

Resource Center roost: Duck exploration station
Dive into the world of ducks with interactive activities and cool facts that will leave you quacking with curiosity.

Trails: Scavenger hunt and duck facts
Wander the trails, discover hidden clues, and learn fun duck facts along the way!

Fire pit:
Warm up by the fire and enjoy a cozy break from the winter chill.

Overlook: Read to a duck!
Kids can enjoy reading aloud to our duck decoys—it’s a fun way to practice reading while celebrating ducks!

Snow duck building contest (weather permitting):
Get creative and build your own snow duck! A fun activity for all ages, depending on the snow conditions.

Cookies, popcorn, and rubber duck items will be for sale. Activities are free with the price of admission. Admission is $6/adults, $5/seniors and students, $4/children ages 2-17. Sanctuary members always get in free!

The W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is located at 12685 East C Ave. in Augusta. Winter hours are Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
