About

In the workshop, join W.K. Kellogg Biological Station graduate student Caleb Krueger as he shares his firsthand knowledge of turtle ecology and conservation. Following his presentation, guided by artist-in-residence Erica Bradshaw, you’ll create your own turtle-inspired watercolor painting based on your observations of live turtles.

All materials are provided, and the workshop will take place both indoors and outdoors, so dress comfortably.

The cost of attendance is $25 for Sanctuary members and $35 for non-members. Register by May 20 at bit.ly/kbs-turtles-watercolors.

Meet the presenters

Caleb Krueger is a Ph.D. candidate studying the ecology and genetics of the endangered spotted turtle. Caleb has loved turtles about as long as he can remember, and he’ll walk us through their biology, what a turtle biologist does, and what you can do for turtles, too. By the end, you just might be willing to help the next angry snapping turtle you see crossing the road.

Erica Bradshaw, who received a bachelor’s degree in illustration from Kendall College of Art and Design, is focused on making art that educates and inspires conversation. As the 2024 KBS artist in residence, Erica looks forward to their work being shown at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary this July.

The W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is located at 12685 East C Ave., one mile north of M-89 and just west of 40th Street. To learn more, visit birdsanctuary.kbs.msu.edu. Direct questions to birdsanctuary@kbs.msu.edu or (269) 671-2510.
