Sarah Reimer honored by MSU with prestigious Jack Breslin award

06.25.25 KBS News

Sarah Reimer, manager of the administrative office at the W.K. Kellogg Biological Station, is a recipient of a 2024-25 Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff award. The award honors Michigan State University staff members who demonstrate the Spartan spirit by embodying the qualities of Jack Breslin, who excelled as a student leader, honored athlete, top administrator, and steadfast advocate. Since its inception in 1978, just 282 recipients have been honored with the award.

Jack Breslin was a student and standout athlete at what was then Michigan State College, playing basketball, football and baseball. Years after his graduation, he returned to MSU to serve in several administrative roles, including executive vice president of the University, from the early 1950s to late 1970s. MSU’s Breslin Center is named in his memory.

Sarah was told that she’d received the award during what appeared to be a routine meeting on March 18. That meeting immediately morphed into a surprise party, replete with cake and a bunch of helium balloons, from which notes of appreciation for Sarah were hung.

Sarah, her family, and some of her KBS colleagues attended a formal award ceremony at MSU on Monday, April 14.

Watch a recording of the ceremony.

Sarah Reimer

Sarah has worked at MSU for almost 11 years. She wears many hats: fiscal officer, HR manager, grants administration for KBS faculty, and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Staff Advisory Committee treasurer, among others. Even while juggling a hefty workload, she is perennially enthusiastic and supportive in helping with all types of tasks.

Here is some praise for Sarah and her work from a few of her KBS colleagues:

“In her dynamic role at KBS she is eventually part of all projects, and this is another area where her grasp of the big picture down to the details is a tremendous value to KBS. Sarah possesses the two most important qualities in a team player: capability and a willingness to do whatever is needed.”

“I think of Sarah as a bicycle wheel’s hub to which all the spokes are connected. This is vividly apparent in our unit…that is located…so distant from MSU’s main campus. Because we are so contained in this space, we are a close community…[and] our community relies deeply on one person, Sarah.”

“She has become a central figure in many areas and her knowledge and recommendations are valued. Sarah’s willingness to take on whatever task needs to be handled, as well as finding the training and partners to learn new things, continues to serve her and KBS well.”

Join us in congratulating Sarah on this very well-deserved honor!
