Gull Lake Community Schools wins MiSTEM grant, strengthening partnerships with Kellogg Biological Station

05.01.26 Grants and funding, K-12 Partnership, KBS News

Gull Lake Community Schools, or GLCS, in partnership with the W.K. Kellogg Biological Station, has been selected as a 2026 MiSTEM Playbook Mini Grant awardee.

KBS science education and outreach fellow Hannah Rothkopf looks on as a student in a middle-school classroom completes an assignment.

MiSTEM Playbook Mini Grants support Michigan school districts in their efforts to offer and expand STEM learning experiences that help students see STEM as relevant to their lives today and as a possible pathway to future careers. The grants are administered by the Michigan Department of Education and funded through a donation from General Motors.

The grant will allow GLCS, the school district within which KBS is located, to continue and expand collaborations like the recent one between KBS and Gull Lake Middle School, which is developing programming for the school’s outdoor classroom.

The KBS K-12 Partnership engages with K-12 educators and students to offer classroom resources, field experiences for students, professional development opportunities for teachers, and training for graduate students in science communication and outreach.

Gull Lake Community Schools has a mission of graduating leaders and creating a culture of high expectations, where each member of the community is challenged and inspired.
